Hello, I'm Emily Salvi, the Director of the Theater Department at the Center for Performing Arts in Methuen. I’ve been involved in performing arts since the age of 6, and I continued my studies at Bradford College before venturing out to produce musicals at local theaters and colleges.

I am so thrilled to bring Hadestown Teen Edition to the Merrimack Valley this season. Hadestown is the retelling of the ancient Greek Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, King Hades and Lady Persephone. It is a tale that speaks to all generations, telling a story of love during challenging times. It is a tale of love, doubt, class warfare, community, and purpose. This production will give students ages 12-19 the opportunity to explore these deep themes through acting, song, and dance in a professional environment. Our production will be set in 1920s New Orleans with an industrial aesthetic.
This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories—the young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and the immortal King Hades and lady Persephone—Hadestown Teen Edition invites audiences on a journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.
The Center for the Performing Arts has its own theater on the premises, where we will rehearse and perform. Students will be allowed to participate in building the set and assisting with props and costumes. They will also have the opportunity to join the studio's International Thespian Society Troupe. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 7:00 pm in the Center for Performing Arts Theater. Please call 978-975-7668 or email cpa.methuen@yahoo for more information.
